The Organizing Committee of the 18th International Docomomo Conference announces the opening of the event’s photographic contest, open to the public and free of charge. We encourage the participation of professional and amateur photographers, as well as students and architects.

Contest object

This activity proposes to focus on the Conference general theme Modern Futures: Sustainable development and cultural diversity. The main purpose of this competition is to raise interest in the different problems and challenges currently facing the built heritage of the 20th century, and modern architecture and urban space in particular.

Photographs Thematic

Participating entries will refer to the thematic areas of the conference (see https://docomomoconference2024.com/thematic-areas/). Each participant may send up to 3 photographs, related to one o more of these areas. Judges are looking for good composition, creativity and clear photographs. Exterior and interior pictures are welcomed.

Contest general rules

Participation is open to all members of the public and free of charge.

Entries must originally be from either an analogue or digital photograph which may have then been manipulated. Computer generated content cannot be the origin of the entry.

Photographs must be original and unpublished (not presented in any other contest or not having totally or partially restricted its reproduction or being subjected to copyright).

Participation in the contest implies full acceptance of its bases.

Photographs submission

The photograph(s) should be sent through the following Google Forms link: https://forms.gle/wbd18sgidgFY6Ssv5

The photographs will be sent in JPG format in 300 DPI. Please follow the indications.

Deadline

The deadline for uploading will be September 2, 2024 at 13 hours (GMT)

Conditions of acceptance and publication of photographs

Only photographs that do not presuppose violence of the rights of a photographed subject will be accepted. In particular, no photograph will be accepted or published that represents an interference with the rights and dignity of people; in case of photographing children, their face must be explicitly hidden.

Any question in this regard not contemplated here remains in the hands of the organizers of the contest and those entities on which they depend. The organization of the contest reserves the right of acceptance for reasons of conscientious objection.

Copyright

The intellectual property of the photographs belongs to their authors.

By participating in the contest they allow their photographs to be exhibited and disseminated in all those areas consistent with this contest.

In case the authorship of the photograph does not belong to the person entering the competition, a signed authorisation for the authorship of the photograph must be sent.

Jury and Prizes

The jury will consist of prominent photographers, architects, and members of Docomomo. The jury will be announced by mid April 2024.

The jury will announce the awards on 21 October 2024. These awards and related information will be published on successive days through the 18th International Docomomo Conference media.

There will be one winner and five special mentions. The distinction for the winners will be the dissemination of their photographs and the respective mentions on Docomomo International and affiliated entities media. Specifically, their photographs will be exhibited during the event and would be used to promote Docomomo’s activities and its publications. The corresponding credits will be given and displayed with the seal of the prize obtained and will be included in the meta-data of each photograph.
